Austin Teachers Use DonorsChoose.org

DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for public school teachers to request items needed for their students. Austin 2nd grade teachers Mrs. Unger and Mrs. Stores, and 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Cook, all have submitted projects that were fully funded and resulted in their classrooms receiving more materials for students to use.

Mrs. Stores’ project—Whole Group Reading Extravaganza!—provided her students with a set of specific books to be used during whole-group teacher read-aloud lessons and also individually by students in the classroom library. The video on the homepage shows Mrs. Stores and her class opening the box of books that just arrived from DonorsChoose!

Mrs. Unger’s project—iPad Minis for Independent Reading/STEM Support—provided her students with two iPad Minis for students to use in accessing various reading, mathematical, and STEM applications. Because of classroom size, the Minis provide access to a wide variety of materials without requiring extra storage space.

Third grade math teacher Mrs. Cook recently had her project funded, also. She has added two new iPad Minis to her classroom, encouraging math practice and fact fluency in a fun and engaging way. Check out Mrs. Cook's project--Come On, Get App-y! iPads for the Math Classroom.

STEM Teacher/Coordinator Mickey Coleman currently has two projects on DonorsChoose.org: Imagination to Reality, Using 3D Printing Pens in Education (23 days left to fund this one!) and 3D Printing: Designing the Future. When funded, both of these projects will supply needed materials for STEM lessons to be completed with students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades this school year.
